It took us a while to head back to the mage's tower, and during the trip Charles asked me why I was interested in the subject of guns, and I told him all I knew: I was unsure myself.
"Well," Charles responded, "This world is magical by nature. Perhaps the book and you connected in some way, or perhaps you had a childhood memory of them. Regardless, I won’t press further on the subject as it is your business, just remember you still need to get some parchment made for Master Avius."
We continued the conversation, until Charles brought me to my room, and I quickly put the heavy books on my desk, my arms already quite sore. ‘I really should start working on more of that paper, I don’t want to make Avius mad after all he’s done for me.’ She went to find Charles, but met Igor first. She explained what she needed in terms of materials, to which Igor promptly replied, "They will be sent to your room momentarily."
She walked back through the tower to find the even better materials sitting in front of her door in a box. ‘Magic’ She sighs, knowing it hasn’t even been five minutes since she spoke with Igor.
She picked up the box, which was surprisingly light, brought it inside, and inspected the tools given to her.
She finds some sort of three footed stand with a crystal at the center, being held by thin metal rods. There was a thin writing on the side of the frame, which she read, "Ignius" and the crystal suddenly started blazing.
Thankfully, she had set it down while inspecting it, but after panicking, she said the phrase again, and it shut off.
"You could have warned me, Igor." She mumbles, and somewhere in the tower, Igor feels like someone is talking behind his back. "Bah, doesn’t surprise me." He ignores the feeling and gets back to work.
As she gets all the materials out, she starts up the pan and gets working. At first, production was slow, but after a day, it sped up drastically. She managed to get tens of pages a day, and after three days, she was in the 100’s range. All while her skills were increasing, she read her books, and soon a week had passed.

She and Charles were walking to the library, casually chatting about the books she had checked out, until Charles stuck his hand out in front of her, and a group of heavily armored men ran past her. As they left, Charles commented "Adventurers, not the most mindful of folk."
"Where are they even going to be in such a rush like that?" I questioned.
"The guild." Charles pointed down to a tavern like building with a large sign of a sword on it and said, "That’s where they usually get quests. It pays well, but it can be risky at times. Not for everyone, that's for sure." He continued, trying to be factual but with disgust seeping into his tone.
After that, we chatted for a bit about the adventurers guild, and finally I asked if I could go there.
"I can take you to the guild, but I can not stay after we arrive. I have some urgent work to do very shortly. Apparently someone had an incident in a dungeon and awoke some lower creatures. I was assigned to investigate, but it shouldn’t be an issue."
"What beast could it have been?" I try to recall what I’ve learned about dungeons "Could it have been a form of undead?"
"It's unlikely, but possible. There are no graveyards nearby, and it's a relatively inactive dungeon."
…
As we walked up to the guild, Charles and I parted ways, and I walked in to the smell of booze.
I discovered a large reception desk in the center of the guild, as well as a bar to the left and stairs to what appeared to be rooms or offices to the right.
I walked up to the desk, and was greeted by a tall elf dressed in black clothing, with a small silver bracelet. I called her over, seeing how she was distracted by thought and papers, and she quickly came up to greet me.
"Hello! Welcome to the adventurers guild. What can I do for you today?"
"I would like to sign up as an adventurer."
"Ok, you will need to fill out some paperwork, but first, what is your preferred method of combat?"
"Magic, I am a mage under Master Avius"
As the clerk was writing, she immediately stopped and nearly dropped her pen. "Understood." She replied, her attitude completely changing. "I can fill out the rest for you, and here is your guild badge." She pulled out a small token, like a gold piece, with the guild symbol written on it. "All I will need is your name."
"Alexis", and the clerk wrote something down on a piece of paper. The token started glowing with Mana, and she handed the token to me just as the glow faded.
"There is your guild badge. "You are currently ranked E, with F being the lowest and A being the highest."
"Why was I not started at the lowest rank if I was just registering?" I question, to which I get the reply: "People in special combat classes get different starting ranks from normal melee classes. This is based on the rarity and requirements of the class."
I nod my head, realizing my ignorance, and continue to the wall of requests that other adventurers are gathering around.
