Created for the April 2024 Writeathon. When a trio of young adults came together to clean out the attic of a deceased eccentric grandmother's house, they didn't expect the ancient book they stumbled across to be actual magic. They didn't think it would be anything more than a fun distraction from their work to perform one of the rituals within. They didn't expect to tear open a portal to a paradoxical void reality and invite a sapient all-consuming emptiness into reality. They didn't expect to each be touched by the supernatural darkness that followed in a different way. And nobody saw coming that a curious broken fragment of the eldritch monster now furiously beating down the veil between worlds would come to bond with them like a lost child. The Nothing Child is the story of four disparate points of view, bound together by circumstance to fight something far beyond all of them. They must struggle with their differences and nurture their fledgeling supernatural abilities to wage a desperate shadow war between realities behind the scenes of an ordinary city. The fate of reality as we know it is at stake, the veil between worlds gradually breaking down as they try to keep the hungering darkness brought forth by their mistake at bay. Cover art by me.
