Captain Zero, the most unqualified and unlikely leader in the galaxy, is thrust into command of the starship Rusty Bucket. Armed with nothing but a basic understanding of intergalactic travel and a crippling lack of competence, Zero leads a crew that’s even more inept than himself. From malfunctioning hyperdrives to botched diplomatic missions, the Rusty Bucket is the laughingstock of the cosmos. Each mission is a catastrophe waiting to happen—whether it’s accidentally initiating a war with a peaceful alien species, flying straight into a black hole because the navigation system is powered by outdated software, or unwittingly causing a planet-wide crisis because someone forgot to pack the emergency supplies. Through a series of increasingly absurd adventures, Captain Zero and his bumbling crew somehow stumble their way through space, surviving by sheer dumb luck. They may not get the job done in any way resembling competence, but they do get it done—eventually, and with hilarious consequences. In a universe that’s anything but forgiving, will Captain Zero's unearned "leadership" get them out of one impossible situation after another?
