Synopsis
Drake is the prodigal son of Lord David the Mighty, Curew's only living legend and general of its armies. Taught from the moment he could hold a wooden practice sword, Drake has been trained in the art of war and leadership. When he was introduced to Rhey, an absolute terror who could find mischief in an empty room, he was told that no harm would befall her, or else. His life is turned upside down by her antics and no amount of frustration, cajoling, or bribery will convince her to behave. To make matters worse, she has an infuriating fondness for causing problems for him specifically. Despite his irritation, their proximity starts a tentative friendship only to discover their lives are intertwined deeper than either could guess.
When his father takes all the able-bodied men off to war against their northern neighbors of Mondall, Drake is left in charge with only a group of soldiers-in-training and civilians. In their isolated castle and town, everyone believes themselves safe until they're proven wrong. The Mondallian commander has a personal grudge against Lord David, and he's come to deliver a blow from which his enemy may never recover. Now, it's up to Drake, Rhey, and their friends to lead the defense against the siege that threatens to destroy all they know and love. Can he and his new friends find the strength and courage to stand against the full might of the Mondallian army?
