Seventeen-year-old loner, Laken Porter’s life has been complicated since birth. Between her overbearing mother, distracted father, and the constant feeling that her life is not what it seems, Laken can’t wait to get through her last year of high school. As if that wasn’t enough, children around her neighborhood have been going missing, causing panic around the city. So, it’s no surprise that when Laken is given an outlet to escape some mysteries of her life, she is eager. What she doesn’t realize is this outlet is a portal to another world.               Once there, she meets an Informer; a boy named Moshiem who is just as handsome as he is secretive. He warns her there are people out to get her both in his world and in her hometown. And sure enough, not long after, someone tries to take full advantage.               Laken soon discovers the many secrets of her family’s past, and that comes at a terrible price. Her life is on the line, literally, with men trying to kidnap her and the ones she loves at every turn. With time running out, she must decide to piece together the legacy of her family and the consequences of her true identity, or accept life for what it is, what little there may be left.
