Synopsis
In the sprawling, bustling city of Lumiose, Sylvie is a 10-year-old girl with little more than the clothes on her back and the sharp instincts of a survivor. Orphaned from a young age, Sylvie has never known a life of comfort or care. Abandoned by her parents, she was sent to an orphanage where she learned early on that weakness would not be tolerated. The adults running the orphanage were cruel and abusive, using fear and punishment to maintain control. The other children, just as broken as her, formed their own hierarchies, bullying the weakest and leaving them to fend for themselves. Sylvie, determined not to be crushed under the weight of her circumstances, learned to become self-reliant, tough, and cold.
But as she grew, Sylvie began to understand that strength wasn't just about survival—it was about leaving a mark on the world. Every day, she heard whispers, insults, and judgments: You're worthless. You’re nothing. You'll never matter. These words echoed in her mind, fueling her belief that weakness is a sin. To her, being weak meant being invisible, expendable. It meant being discarded and forgotten, like the trash she scavenged for food. It meant not being able to leave a mark on the world that would last.
Sylvie’s escape from the orphanage came when she was just eight years old. The orphanage, with its oppressive rules and brutal caregivers, was no place for someone like her. Leaving it behind, she stepped into the dangerous streets of Lumiose City—unprotected, uncared for, and yet more free than she had ever been. Here, on the streets, she learned to survive by any means necessary. She scavenged through trash, stole when needed, and kept to the shadows. Trust was a luxury she couldn’t afford. Every day was a battle. Every night, she wondered if this would be the night she wouldn’t wake up.
Despite her determination, Sylvie remained emotionally closed off, afraid of forming connections that would only leave her vulnerable. That is, until she meets an unlikely companion: an Eevee. The little Pokémon, weak, hungry, and lost, stumbles into Sylvie’s life while she’s rummaging through the trash for food. Their encounter is nothing short of fateful, and Sylvie, despite her hardened heart, finds herself caring for the tiny creature. She offers Eevee the last of her stale bread, and in that moment, something inside her shifts. For the first time, she experiences a warmth she’s been starved of for years: a connection that goes beyond survival.
