Synopsis
Hiroshi Ayami, an unassuming high school bookworm, stumbles upon an ancient tome from a mysterious online marketplace. His discovery is meant to be an exciting addition to his Book Reading Club, but the moment he unlocks its secrets, his world begins to unravel. When he and his friends decipher the book’s eerie title—The Game of the Bookkeeper—strange phenomena begin to occur. The book resists their attempts to open it, and its unreadable symbols seem to shift as if alive.
Then, during class, Hiroshi’s reality is shattered. A brilliant light erupts from his bag, freezing his classmates in time—lifeless but eerily conscious. As the walls of his world dissolve into darkness, Hiroshi is pulled into a nightmarish realm where time bends, shadows whisper, and unseen forces watch his every move. He is no longer in Tokyo. He is in the Game.
Trapped in a world of unknown rules and lurking horrors, Hiroshi encounters The Bookkeeper—a sinister, godlike entity that claims he has been “chosen” to play. The stakes? His soul, his friends, and the fate of a world hidden beneath the fabric of reality. As Hiroshi navigates this deadly game, he discovers that he is not the first player—others have tried before, and none have survived.
With cryptic puzzles, horrifying adversaries, and an ever-changing reality that twists his perception, Hiroshi must outsmart the Bookkeeper before he loses himself entirely. But as the game progresses, one terrifying question lingers:
Was it truly Hiroshi who found the book... or did the book find him?
