Synopsis
Centuries before Alexandra came to Alcheryos, a strange anomaly came to the attention of a local officer of the gendarmerie of the Eris Empire. A mirror, said to devour those who came near, including several innocents he was responsible to protect.
Of course, mirrors cannot eat people, but in a world infested with technological horrors of a forgotten age and magical abominations unleashed by madmen, it is better to be safe than sorry.
The mirror is reported. But instead of a team of mages, or a simple bureaucratic rebuke, strange soldiers and specialists arrive, immediately taking over the warehouse where the mirror is being stored.
And Lesly, an up and coming commander of the secretive Order To Restore Humanity, masquarading as a high ranking intelligence officer, arrives to acquire what she sees as the first step towards a great plan. A plan that will change the world forever.

This story was made for participation in the June 2023 Royal Road Magazine contest.
This short story is set in the same universe as my The Fallen World novel series, a few centuries before its events take place. While it is not necessary to have read this story to appreciate this one, some of the implications and wider context may be lost, simply due to the lack of space within the length of the story to expand upon them.
Chapters will be between 1k to 3k words in length. There is no set schedule for now, but I have every intention of having 8k words out by june 30th. The short story should be around 12k or so words in length in total, but as my long time readers are aware, I might go over that count substantially.
