Silver wasn't supposed to have survived. Abandoned as a babe and saved on a whim by the ruthless ruler of crime in Lesand, Rath, every day has been a struggle for survival, so far as she can remember. Rath made it clear that, while he saved her life and would train her, he would not help her if it meant sacrificing himself. Nor would he expect her to lay down her life for him. While living in the slums is not easy, it is peaceful overall. The criminals and residents of the slums are a genial bunch as long as business interests don’t conflict. And everyone is united by one thing: pure, unadulterated hatred for the corrupt who see fit to exploit the slums. Without any mages to protect them, any inherently gifted stolen away before they can walk, the slums are at the mercy of the nobles. This life, those in her town, her slums...these things are worth protecting in Silver’s mind. And so she does, until one day her protection pushes too far, revealing more than she ever cared to and casting her onto the far edge of fate.
