Volume 2 Chapter 3 Extinction

"They’re dead? That was sooner than expected" Rico exclaimed when he woke up, hearing the devastating news that 99% of the creatures in the Doomsday world had perished.

Yesterday, fish had evolved into amphibians. Rico had expected to see animals roaming everywhere on the earth today, but even the ocean's base camp was on the brink of extinction. Plants lay dead in pieces on the ground, devoid of any greenery. The once towering giant trees at the world's center had become mere remnants, devoid of green buds, their fate uncertain.

Rico pondered the unexpected turn of events. In the blink of an eye, dark clouds loomed overhead, and a massive lightning bolt cleaved through the giant tree as if the sky itself was punishing it.

"Boom!" With a deafening noise, Rico watched as the towering tree, once hailed as the tree of the world, collapsed. It seemed the end had truly come.

Confusion gripped Rico. Hadn't things been progressing positively just yesterday? Why had the entire world changed overnight? Moreover, he noticed that the rain falling from the sky was black, its impact audible as it struck the ground and tainted even the ocean with its dark waters.

Rico swiftly retrieved the viewing log from Enoch and flipped to the second page to record the history of the original world.

The Doomsday calendar, beginning of the ancient period:

Ancient times: Amphibians emerged, animals gradually populated the continents, and insects took to the skies. The tree at the world's center failed to grow but continued to absorb rare aura, rendering the area around it lifeless. However, creatures multiplied unchecked, showing no restraint as they continually ravaged the environment.

Consequently, oxygen and aura were depleted rapidly, pushing the world to its limits. Marine life perished en masse, while plants and animals on land withered and faced extinction. Eventually, acid rain fell from the sky, leading to the demise of 99% of the creatures.

Even the central tree faced divine punishment, destroyed by thunder and lightning. Only the fire of life remained in the ocean's depths.

Observing the changes in the original world upon awakening, Rico felt a mix of emotions. What he initially deemed as peculiar celestial phenomena turned out to be the world's own agony.

The central tree, originally the first creature and situated at the world's yang point, was supposed to be God's favorite. Yet, it met its end at the hands of its creator. Nature.

"Creatures only take without giving back. Even the central tree greedily absorbed aura, rendering the surroundings devoid of life. No wonder this was the outcome," Rico sighed. Fortunately, not all creatures had perished, and hope lingered with the fire of life in the ocean's depths.

Surveying the devastated earth, Rico realized that restoration would take millions of years. "Adjust the time flow rate!" he commanded, hastening the pace.

The depiction of the Doomsday world rapidly progressed, with the acid rain eventually ceasing. As conditions improved from dire to favorable, life began to thrive once more. Fragile beings emerged from the depths of the ocean, while buds struggled to break through the earth's blackened surface, emitting oxygen and absorbing aura to nourish the land.

The first biological extinction, it seemed, had its silver lining. Creatures now understood the importance of preserving the environment and began to give back to the world. The earth grew more fertile, enriched by the countless lives lost.

Suddenly, Rico's attention was drawn to the world's yang point, where amidst the wreckage of the central tree, a small sapling slowly emerged.

"But didn't the thunderous punishment extinguish its vitality before?" Rico pondered, turning back the centuries to unravel the mystery.

Despite facing natures wrath, the towering giant, standing nine kilometers tall, offered no resistance. Expected to meet its demise, it instead released the accumulated aura of millions of years, nourishing the earth in its final act.

It's due to this behavior that the earth preserves its last vestiges of vitality!

"It seems it finally realized at the last moment that survival isn't about plunder, but rather a cycle of feedback," Rico mused, finally grasping the beginning and end. "If it's merely blind plunder and self-destruction in the end, only by mutually giving and receiving feedback can the world progress and achieve greater development!"

After death comes new life, and everything is rejuvenated. After an evolution, this time the creatures are evidently much faster, richer, and more powerful!

In the ocean, there's a colossal creature, 50 meters long and weighing 300 tons. Rico dubbed it Canglong, undoubtedly the ocean's overlord! Others that evolved into power generators, highly poisonous beings, and those with specialized attacks couldn't shake its dominance. It's formidable! Strength is paramount!

However, amidst them was a shell-bearing creature that caught Rico's attention—it had been there in the last era. Surprisingly, after the extinction of other hegemonic creatures, it survived. This creature was succinctly described by just one word: "Gou!"

It epitomized the essence of this word thoroughly, and its evolutionary path followed suit. While other creatures continued to hunt for improvement and growth, it took the opposite route. The more it evolved, the smaller it became. Now, it sustains itself by consuming mud, huddling within its shell for hundred-year slumbers!

Recently, this group migrated to the coastline, seemingly aiming to evolve into amphibians for better survival. Rico christened them: Ancestral Shell Beasts!

Gradually, creatures began to venture onto the mainland from the ocean. Unlike the last era, mainland plants didn't grow rampantly. Instead, they paid more heed to themselves and the surrounding environment, rather than engaging in blind competition for sunlight and water.

Millions of years later, the central tree reached a height of one kilometer. This time, its growth rate was sluggish yet steady. Beneath the tree, there was no vitality; instead, parasitic plants adorned it. These plants relied on the giant tree for sustenance, evolving into a fragrant, predatory form akin to Earth's Nepenthes.

However, the idyllic times were short-lived, seemingly paying the price for the sins of the last era. Mainland mountains and rivers trembled, continuous volcanic eruptions occurred, and rolling magma swept across the world, with forest fires in pursuit.

Following the eruption of a 5,000-meter super volcano, the world changed its hue, and numerous creatures perished. No creatures remained on the continent, except for some subterranean species capable of barely surviving by burrowing. At this juncture, larger bodies meant faster deaths.

Alas, the first generation oceanic super-overlord, Canglong, was the first casualty. Surveying the colossal body, 50 meters in length, floating lifelessly in the sea, Rico shook his head.

After the volcanic eruption, dust veiled the sky, shrouding the sun and drifting across the world. The ocean became polluted, with corpses of creatures adrift, painting a grim picture.

The Enoch log began to inscribe its narrative on the second page:

In the Doomsday calendar, during the ancient period, the world gradually rebounded, entering a more prosperous era than the preceding ancient times. However, the prosperity was short-lived. With continuous volcanic eruptions, the environment deteriorated rapidly, resulting in the demise of 85% of creatures.

Though the central tree was resurrected, it fell prey to the flames, yet it ultimately left behind the most crucial vitality at the center.
