Chapter 5 The Evolution

Chapter 5 The Evolution

Rico gazed intently at the bustling world of insects before him. He could see ants of various sizes and colors crawling over the weeds, their delicate legs moving in perfect synchronization. They seemed to be on a mission, gathering grass juice, and taking it back to their queen. Rico noted that despite the ants' frenzied movements, not a single mosquito was hovering close by. He wondered if there was a reason for this.

As he continued to observe, Rico noticed the soil beneath the grass was curled and disturbed, indicative of earthworms moving below. Suddenly, an earthworm, thick and long as a chopstick, emerged from the dirt. The earthworm slithered towards a group of ants, its sharp mandibles glistening in the sunlight. One of the ants, caught off guard, was quickly overpowered and pulled into the soil by the earthworm.

Rico's mind was racing with questions. How had the earthworms become carnivorous when they were known for feeding on dead plants? What other changes had occurred in this strange environment? As he continued to watch, he saw that the ants were much larger than their counterparts outside the Cradle. Their behavior had also changed, and they seemed to be working more efficiently and with greater purpose.

Although the mosquitoes had not exhibited any unusual behavior, Rico had a feeling that they too had evolved in some way. He decided to conclude his observation and take one last look around the Cradle before departing.

In reality, Rico was standing there unmoving and blank. He thought about the possibility of a snake biting him on the mountain and decided it would be a drag.

As Rico's observation came to a halt, he noticed that time in the Cradle started to move rapidly once again. The once pristine and empty Cradle had transformed into a thriving ecosystem, with weeds, ants, insects, and a plethora of other critters filling its space. As he observed closely, Rico noticed that the Cradle was recording every little development happening inside it.

The weed that he had been observing had been planted only two years ago, but in the Cradle's accelerated timeline, it had already grown to an enormous size. The growth rate was astonishing, roughly 500,000 times faster than time in the real world.

Rico's attention shifted towards other Cradle species, like the ants, mosquitoes, and earthworms, which had also undergone significant changes. As they entered the Cradle, they seemed to have absorbed mana from the lesser version of Origin and started to evolve rapidly. The ants, earthworms, and mosquitoes grew larger and more powerful than their real-world counterparts, and their body structures had undergone remarkable transformations, indicating that this was not just a simple evolution.

The ants, for example, had become significantly stronger, and even their progeny had experienced significant changes. The second-generation ants' carapaces were now as hard as human fingernails, a geometric alteration that was simply mind-boggling. The earthworms, too, had undergone a similar transformation, with their bodies becoming larger and more robust, making them formidable predators in the Cradle's ecosystem.

As Rico continued to observe, he realized that this world left behind by Origin's genesis had indeed created an entirely new and unique ecosystem that was continuously evolving and growing. The Cradle was now a world of its own, with its set of rules and laws that were entirely different from the real world.

Rico was overjoyed with the evolution of these animals since it brought him closer to his ideal world of mythology. He wondered what would happen if he absorbed mana as well. Would he instantly morph into a tank of muscle capable of destroying tanks? But he didn't dare to test himself since it was too soon. More monitoring was required.

After an animal's death, its essence, mana, and spirit continue to serve a purpose. The decomposition of the animal's body provides sustenance for the world's creatures, which feeds the Cradle, a place where time moves faster and evolution occurs at an exponential rate. The energy that once belonged to the animal is repurposed to support the growth and evolution of this new ecosystem.

As the animal's essence is consumed by the other creatures, the leftover material is transformed into World Source. This energy is a powerful substance that Rico can use to shape and influence the Cradle in any way he desires. It holds immense power, and the origin he holds allows him to harness and control it to great effect.

Rico's control over the World Source is what allows him to shape the Cradle into a world of his own. He can create and manipulate its environment, set its laws, and make it a place that is truly unique. However, he is careful to ensure that he does not exhaust the World Source entirely, as it is the foundation of the Cradle's growth and evolution.

Moreover, the transformation of an animal's essence into World Source also serves another purpose: it helps to purify and cleanse the atmosphere. As the World Source is used to shape the Cradle, it also works to purify the air, making it healthier for the creatures that inhabit it. The energy from the animal's essence is used in a way that is sustainable, benefiting the Cradle and the world as a whole.

Overall, the transformation of an animal's essence and spirit into World Source is a crucial process that ensures the growth and evolution of the Cradle. Rico's ability to control and use this energy source is a vital component of his role as a caretaker of this new ecosystem.

In the Cradle, mana serves as a vital source of energy for the organisms that inhabit it. The more mana an organism can absorb from its environment, the stronger and more powerful it becomes. Mana is a valuable resource for these creatures as it strengthens their flesh and makes their bodies more solid and robust.

Moreover, the mana absorbed by an organism is not just beneficial in terms of physical strength, but it also helps to drive evolution. It adapts to the creature's genotype, working with it to push it towards change and growth. It can result in significant improvements for the organism or lead it down a path that could ultimately lead to its demise. The mana's effects on an organism are entirely dependent on the creature's genetic makeup and how it interacts with the energy source. But alas it is a limited resources that was created as the byproduct of the construction of this realm, and soon it will be gone.

After spending the day observing the Cradle and its inhabitants, Rico returned home exhausted. He decided to take a long, hot bath to relax his tired muscles. The warm water was soothing, and the steam helped to clear his mind, allowing him to reflect on the events of the day.

Once he finished his bath and cooked himself dinner, it was already 7:30 pm, and Rico decided to call Old John.

“How are you, old bloke?” Rico inquire

“I'm still here, healthy, alive, and lonely, but I have to go right away to take care of a matter at home.” John voice rang on the telephone

“Okay, okay, don't worry I'll find someone to love you, just let me work my magic.”

“Oh, please don't. The last time you tried to set me up, she turned out to be a professional mime.” John voice was in pain as he said those last words

“Hey, at least she was silent and easy to read!” Rico smirk

“Ha! Very funny. But, I think I'll stick to doing my own love hunting.” He said sarcastically with a smile in his voice.

“Suit yourself, but if you change your mind, I've got a whole list of women who love a man with a "matter at home" to take care of.”

“I'll keep that in mind. Thanks, Rico.”

“Anytime, old bloke. Sweet dreams and good luck on your love hunt.”

Taking a breather outside, Rico lit his cig and rested on his sofa.
