Desmond lives contentedly in a peaceful village on the edge of Sanctus Kingdom. Working at a bakery and caring for his family, he leads a quiet life. When his father proposes that he explore his potential as a mage, they visit an eccentric old man named Ignis for a test. During the test, a solar eclipse coincides with Desmond's unexpected display of powerful magic, breaking a crystal ball. Impressed, Ignis invites Desmond to become his apprentice, setting Desmond on a new path into the world of magic.
