Synopsis
It is the year 257 B.C. Alexander the Great is dead, and with his passing marked the fracturing of his great empire into many kingdoms, all of them determined to live up to Alexander's power and glory in Hellenistic fashion. Our story is set in the Ptolemaic Kingdom, the Greeks who ruled over the lands of Egypt. Founded by Ptolemy I after Alexander's death, now succeeded by his son, Ptolemy II. But the younger Ptolemy's reign has been controversial, if certainly in part due to his decision to exile his first wife and marry his older sister.
It is a dark and stormy night, and Drakon, necromancer for the court, is summoned to the island of Pharos. In the grand lighthouse of Alexandria he finds the corpse of Herodotus, a high-ranking official and advisor to the King. Gifted with necromantic magic, Drakon has the unique ability to speak with the dead, and hopes to ask Herodotus about the identity of his killer. But Drakon soon finds this case to be more mysterious and complex than any he has ever faced, and as the storm grows strong and violent, everyone trapped inside the lighthouse realizes the killer could very well be among them, waiting for his chance to strike again.
