Atlas, like his namesake, was used to holding up the world. His friends depended on his presence to hang out with each other, his family depended on him for food, and his work depended on him to actually function. It was for this reason that, when the literal Devil approached him, he wasn't paying enough attention to question anything about his sales pitch. Bestowed with almost immortality and then immediately sent to Hell, Atlas needs to fight his way through hordes of demons in order to reunite with his family.
