The Emperors Children Fell to Chaos after their Primarch became tainted in his seeking perfection in all things and twisted by his desire to never fail. The Loyalists were lost, destroyed and left behind in the aftermath of the Istvaan Massacres. Many of the veterans of the 3rd were not present at the fall, either being directly blocked from joining or dissappearing into the disarray of the time, and several hundred Emperors children who banded together to support the loyalists became becalmed in the Warp and were too late to the battle, only arriving in time to weep over the bodies of their fallen brethren, and pick up what pieces of Arms, armor, and barely living meat they could find after Horus, the Warmaster, Bombarded the planet to ruin. The Shattered remains of loyalist-traitors, were allowed to survive under severe censure, with their gene stocks being un-retrievable, and the brothers of the other shattered legions being added to their ranks to keep an eye on them, The potential for existance was all but dashed. Only after a strange Mutation of a Vestigial piece of their gene seed organs allowed them to survive after a fashion, and only then was their place in the imperium returned once more.
