On the day of his school graduation, Zackary Handerson had an accident and met the angel of death, named Elisheva or Elz, to take Zack to the afterlife and undergo soul justice. Zack, who had a promise to the spirit of his childhood friend, refused. As a result, he was attacked by a spirit-eating demon, called Mao.  Elz gives Zack a choice, be sent to the afterlife or be eaten by Mao. Zack chooses to voluntarily be taken to the afterlife as long as he fulfills his promise, namely to save the soul of his lost friend. Elz also offered Zack a deal that Zack could save the soul of his friend and other lost spirits with Elz's angel of death powers. However, if he has fulfilled his promise, then Elz will soon meet Zack's death.  "You don't have many choices, you only have two choices. Come with me to the afterlife or will you be eaten by that beast?"
