The story follows Anthony, an experienced firearms and engineering specialist whose career is derailed when the project he's led for five years is abruptly canceled. As he drives home on a chilly fall night, his thoughts drift back to his childhood on a farm, where his passion for firearms and mechanical engineering was ignited. After years of honing his skills, he landed a job with a Department of Defense contractor, working on a new military firearm, but now, with the project shut down, he's left questioning his future. During his drive, an unexpected and dangerous encounter causes him to crash his car, and he wakes up in an unfamiliar, possibly alien, landscape with two moons. He quickly realizes he's no longer in his world and is stranded in a strange forest. Armed only with his father's pistol, he defends himself against a pack of giant, wolf-like creatures, killing the alpha. He eventually stumbles upon a village inhabited by humanoid beings, who appear to be elves, and begins observing them, trying to find a way to survive. Anthony's plan to blend in by sneaking into the village goes awry when he is caught by a woman named Lira, who helps to get him imprisoned. In the dungeon, chained and confused, he learns that the "elves" are referred to as the Al’dari and that he is an oddity to them. The story leaves Anthony grappling with his predicament, trying to make sense of the situation, while also finding comfort in a familiar song, his connection to his father, and his determination to survive in this strange world.
