Delde Vargidan is a young half elven woman living an isolated life of study and research in the rural town of Kassen. She has lived her entire life in the town but has never truly felt a part of it, finding the books of her mentor and her feline familiar Onyx to be better company than the townsfolk. However, she is made to participate in a coming-of-age tradition along with other youths her age, thrusting her out of her comfort zone and into a social environment she feels ill-equipped to deal with. Scornful of the traditional journey into the forest surrounding the town to enter the tomb of the towns founder, Delde thinks of it as nothing more than a childish game and a waste of her time. However, as things progress she finds that there are real dangers involved in the quest she finds herself undertaking, some to be expected, many more not. Soon she will be tested further than she ever expected to be and forced to put her trust in people she has barely ever interacted with before, all the while trying to discover what dark secrets the Crypt of the Everflame has kept hidden for so long.
