Watched over by a pantheon of gods that have grown bored after millennia of relative peace, Lismaria is a world of natural beauty and ancient mystery, marked by the scars of wars both recent and as old as the gods themselves. But, when one of their number discovers a world similar to their own, yet lacking magic or gods to watch over it, some of them see a chance to not only break their boredom, but also to expand their domain. And so, the seeds for what the gods would come to call "The Game of Champions," were sown. They would take a few tens of thousands of people from this new world, "Earth," selected by the gods through various means, name them their Champions, toss them into their world of Lismaria with only basic supplies and the ability to understand a few languages, the closest match of the language or languages they spoke natively on Earth. From that point on, the gods would watch what would happen unfurl.
