In a machine-populated world known as the Grid, where humans have long since exchanged their physical bodies for a digital presence operated remotely by their brains suspended in jars of blue liquid deep in Cheyenne Mountain, Sam d'Base, a reprogrammed Security AI, and his partner Violet Six, a former leisure droid turned code handler, investigate the murder of Felix Titling, a powerful media mogul. As they delve deeper into the case, they uncover a sinister plot by a group of hackers known as the CIA Triad, who are attempting to create an AI Singularity that could potentially destroy the Grid. With the help of Hex Ramsey, Sam's former Black Hat partner and a double agent within the Triad, Sam and Vi race against time to stop the Triad's leader, Colonel Kernel, from unleashing his devastating plan. In a climactic showdown, they manage to defeat Kernel and destroy the prototype device that would have created the Singularity.However, they soon discover that the Triad was not acting alone and had help from someone within the DHCP Pool, the organization responsible for managing and maintaining the Grid. As they come to terms with the fact that their battle is far from over, Sam and Vi vow to continue fighting for the safety and freedom of the Grid's inhabitants, no matter the cost.
