Unrelenting heat flooded the young boy's body causing his face to contort in a mix of discomfort and pain. A minute went by and the surging heat started to pass, causing the boy to relax.
Without turning his head or even shifting an inch, the boy softly asked "Dr. Martin, How many more tests must I complete today?"
Not long after he asked, a monotone voice, belonging to an old bald man in a lab coat, replied "The higher ups were quite pleased with your recent results Pan. They actually gave you the rest of the day off." The man moved over to the big screen and began to rapidly type on the keyboard below it, causing the images to shift and change.
The boy, no longer on duty, applied a disinfectant onto his outer body and exited the room with a detached stride.
Upon leaving the testing room, Pan headed towards his designated room, located a mere 2 doors over.
Ignoring the glances he was being given by a group of businessmen touring the facility, he entered his pass code, granting himself access to the room.
Pan's room consisted of an old Hammock stretching across a long part of the room, a small blue bed, a large desk with drawers, a simple closet, and a half filled bookshelf.
Upon his desk, many scattered books rested, all of them filled with sticky notes and marked up with notes he had made. On his hammock laid his Laptop, which was probably the most expensive thing he owned and the only electronic he had permission to use.

Pan, finally alone, plopped down on his desk chair, not failing to grab a book on the way there.
Had another person saw the book he was reading, they would be baffled: a textbook. He actually chose to study during his only free time.
The Research Facility had taken him in at a young age, but never bothered to teach him more than the basics, forcing him to use his own time to advance his studies.
After 3 hours of painstaking effort and praiseworthy attempts to decrypt his textbook and solve the problems with only the aid of online help, Pan shut his book and sighed.
"Why do I even bother," Pan asked himself "It's not like I'll ever leave this place. Who cares if I don't know..."
Upon neatly placing his book back onto the shelf, Pan heard a small ding behind him.
"What could that be." wondered Pan. His laptop, which he thought he had logged off, now displayed a strange question.
Want to know the meaning of life? Want to live... a real life?
Yes [ ] No [ ]
"...do they even need to ask?" sighed Pan. "Anything is better than this."

That day, Pan had disappeared from the face of the planet, causing the Government to panic and commence the largest wild Goose chase in U.S. History, mobilizing an elite team that had orders to find him at any cost: Not that the public knew or would ever know.
