This is a cyberpunk / space opera that that involves a female lead who has devoted herself to Fleet Service, only to find herself back on Terra after a terrifying encounter with an entity while her ship is warp-jumping. I have lots of inspirations, including Ender's Game, Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell, Old Man's War, and others. I also couldn't help but toss in some romance, which just naturally happened as the story unfolded! Interested to hear if it's too much, or not enough. I wanted to explore the idea of someone who was incredibly unique and skilled, but then has their entire identity ripped away. What would that do to a person? With Lanis, we find that she tries to numb herself against the experience she's gone through, but then jumps at the first opportunity to reinvent herself, though she's unsure that her old skills will translate. Those skills involve the extreme mental toughness and the ability to meld with an AI consciousness. Oh, also, I love the writing about mechs battling each other (though you'll have to wait a bit! :D). I'll be uploading every few days.
