After being pursued by monsters and demons across the ravaged forests of the Gelding, James has reached the relative safety of the Forest Citadel. With the Custodian’s Blade now in his possession, he gradually begins to win the grudging respect of those who once held him captive. Safe for now in this relative oasis of calm, the mysterious monk at last speaks, divulging both of his troubled past and the supernatural force now threatening the land. His news is dire and scarcely believable, for it means the end of the world is nigh. Their only hope for surviving the coming apocalypse is to travel beyond the reaches of the Gelding, to seek the help of a dying man. He is the last of a vanished order, the last to have harnessed powers equal to those of the gods, the last of the Magicians.
