Sol system is discovered by an intragalactic "empire" who build a hyperspace super transit point in the Oort cloud. Some 'aliens' visit Earth and take humans home as pets, fighting animals, etc. One such pet sets up Earth children to become creatures that are physical, can withstand space without a ship or suit, and can survive & thrive in space without dependency on any planet.
