All Roderick O'Connell wants to do is take this last security job and retire fully. Having survived the front lines of WW3 he is now the security head for the first terraforming and colonization project outside of the Sol system. Thanks to a disaster, his hopes are dashed as the colony ship is hurled far off course, ending up with no FTL in a system with one nearby habitable world. But they find out they're not alone in the system as they pass a ship graveyard and find colonies of aliens on the planet.  They must adapt, scavenge, and make alliances to survive as the humans are pulled further and further into the chaos of their new world.  I apologize, because I'm not great at summarizing things.
