On just a random day, all of humanity received what many would have usually considered a true miracle. Were it not for the single exception included, however. As worlds collide to form an interdimensional coliseum, every human alive becomes a Summoner. Each person is given a Summon by the System, and it is these Summons that act as the sole way a person can be killed. Only Summons can hurt other Summons, and when one dies, so does its master.  Mike is just one individual in this bloodbath of epic proportions.
