That left me alone with a confused-looking Rae.
"Why did you choose me for this?"
It had been a bit of a spur-of-the-moment decision. But enough of the city folk had backed him up that it seemed worthwhile.
"I needed to find trustworthy people with some background in magic. I thought that a Mage Academy unrelated to the people who abandoned the city would be a good place to start."
While the experience of Magic hadn't been as bad as crafting. I didn't want someone with no experience to suddenly become a mage. I had dealt quite a bit of damage to the village I had spawned in. It was only the virtue of it being empty that stopped anyone from being hurt.
That and I thought that they would be more effective than I was.
Rae didn't ask any more questions. He only got up out of his seat and walked with purpose through the building. It seemed that it wasn't his first time inside. I would have to get to the bottom of exactly who he was.
His lack of power had been no act. Neither was his fascination with his new abilities. I could feel the surges of magic from the training area already.
Unfortunately after everything that had happened. I only had a few minutes left in the spirit world.
After locking myself in one of the more secure rooms. I returned to Blue Star. Ready to talk to my parents about everything that had happened.
I didn't want them working any longer. Every exhausting day created more chances for things to go wrong.
I had chickened out of finding a place to sell the cores I had before. But I couldn't procrastinate anymore. Once I returned to school, doing anything of the sort would become more difficult.
It was fortunate that Alice had taken the siblings out to play. Leaving me alone with my parents. Who seemed more than happy to talk to me.
I was a little disappointed that I didn't yet have a talented Alchemist to imbue them with. But that time would soon come.
It was only my serious face that brought the mood of my parents down a little.
I explained what more I knew. Why I had been able to incarnate in such a faraway location. What was happening, and what could happen in the future.
Placing down the Rank 3 core in front of them was the only thing that lightened the mood a little.
The sight of such a treasure nearly shocked them enough to stop them thinking too much about the destruction of the Spirit World.
"We can't accept this. It is far too valuable Alex. What would we even do with it? You can't tell us that the fate of the Spirit World is destruction then hand us a core worth more than our home."
"I wasn't sure how best to deal with it. I don't want to see you working where you are anymore."
They did smile lightly after I said that, but still seemed worried about what to do with the core in front of them. I didn't even start trying to say that I had access to far more valuable cores as well.
I did bring up my tablet and used one of the other second-year students to imbue my mother.
While I wanted to use the Knight I had to imbue my father. It seemed like a waste to use him now. If he followed the trend, then he would become a High Knight after his time in the second year.

If I had thought the Adept imbuement had made a difference. Imbuing a second-year student was even more so.
The power of a Mage was enough to refresh her body and soul completely. Her eyes came alive and she seemed to grow younger in front of my eyes.
Nothing I had done could come close to that feeling. That didn't help my parents come to terms with everything I had said. They would need some time to process it.
That left me with little to do but to prepare for the upcoming week. I had thoughts of declaring an early graduation.
With a few tests, it could be done quite easily. While It was mainly for people that the state took an interest in. It wasn't that much harder for the average person to do so.
My soul had almost reached the level where I could spend the maximum amount of time in the spirit world.
Even the most powerful person couldn't spend more than sixteen hours a day on the other plane.
There were rumours of treasures that allowed you to stay longer. But such a treasure would be far beyond the current me.
If I had received a different gift, then staying in school would have been the best thing for me. Those extra few months could be the difference between attending a premier academy or something a little more lacklustre.
Now there wasn't much of a need to continue going. There would be nobody in the city who would have experience in dealing with an SSS Rank Gift. Even a similar gift would be hard to find.
It also didn't seem like learning more about education would affect my academy. That seemed to be up to the teachers I chose.
Also, the thought of someone discovering my gift filled me with dread. While they were rare. There were quite a few people with the ability to tell what other's gifts were. Approaching graduation. The chance of someone like that coming to the school was far higher.
The day passed quickly with my preparations. After having a lovely meal with my family. I went into the spirit world. The last time I would be able to do so without worrying about school.
I hadn't been sure what to expect from Eddie after he went off in a flash. But coming back to the villa filled with several unknown people, was not it.
It seemed that I needn't of worried about finding trustworthy people. Eddie was far ahead of me on that front.
It only took a few seconds for the man to find me. But his mood was quite changed from how it was a few hours earlier.
"Follow me. I have the first batch of people for you to change."
He dragged me along to one of the waiting rooms of the villa. Where five uncomfortable-looking people were standing around.
I couldn't sense any mana from any of them. So I was a little curious about why Eddie had chosen them.
"Here you are. The most trustworthy and honourable people in all of Darkfair. Come on, get to it. This will be a great start to the defensive effort."
While I did feel a little annoyed at him choosing like this. I supposed I did owe him for the cores that he gave me.
Unfortunately after imbuing Rae and my mother. I only had four students left over. I didn't want to use the other High Mage quite yet. Certainly not on people I didn't know.
"I am afraid that I will only be able to give four more people the power of a Mage today"
Eddie seemed to take that in his stride and immediately walked to the group. Selecting four of them and bringing them in front of me.
"These here are the best people I know. They will do a great job if they are given the power first."
I wasn't sure if I was making the best decision. But I decided to trust in Eddie for the moment.
I didn't even know their names, but after a few moments, all of them were kneeling in front of me in thanks.
The power of a Mage is now being channelled through each of their bodies.
Eddie didn't even give me a chance to talk to them before taking them away. Only leaving a short shout to the others to stick around for the next few days.
I didn't think that was too necessary. It didn't look like any of the people who didn't get the powers wanted to leave anytime soon.
All of them were now looking at me in reverence. Not a feeling I was used.
I decided that with the trustworthy folk around, I didn't want to stick in the villa for too long. Both Harold and Douglas were nowhere to be found.
I had grown used to them going out on their own.
Without anything else to do for the moment. I decided to explore the other parts of the city I hadn't seen.
I had been to the lower-class markets the day before. But today I decided to head for richer areas.
The Merchants Quarter of Darkfair was laid out in front of me.
