Synopsis
"You're like one of those heroes, yeah? You've got magic with you. They're the only things interesting in the library," the Villager child says, holding up a stick like a weapon aimed at Loren. "What's a hero like you stealin' from our chests?" They glare.
"I have no idea what you're talking about," Loren hisses. He takes a step back closer to the door, hands raised in defeat, trying to placate the child. He glances over the only window in the room and sees the moon slowly setting. He's pressed for time and he needs to get out of here fast before he's caught by the others.
"Yes, you do! You've got a potato in your hand right now!" The child yells, abruptly raising the stick as a threat.
Loren nervously chuckles, caught red-handed. "Look, kid, it's on you to call me a hero," Loren slowly places the potato down on the ground, "but I have no idea what's going on. One minute, I'm in my house, the next, I'm in Minecraft or whatever. I'm just trying to survive the night."
"Everyone's trying to survive the night. Doesn't mean they can just rob their neighbours."
"You like heroes, don't you? I can just leave, easy-peasy." He presses his back against the door, readying himself. "Don't scream or something, yeah?"
"I'm going to scream," the child firmly says, a tone of determination in their voice.
"Please," Loren emphasizes, "do not scream." Loren slowly turns his heel to the door. "I'd really not get chased out by a mob of angry guards at night. There's already zombies and creepers out there! I mean, I could totally survive—" he lies, "but better safe than sorry. Haven't your parents taught you that?"
The child furrow their brows as they frown, darting their eyes away to avoid Loren's gaze as if deep in thought. "Fine," they huff, lowering their stick, which isn't all that menacing now that Loren thinks about it. "But only if you take me with you. You're clearly crazy and there's something wrong with you, but you're my ticket out of here."
"What?" Loren snorts, rolling his eyes. "I'm not taking in a stupid kid—"
"I'm not stupid!" The child yells at the top of their lungs, alerting everyone in the village.
