PSR 1257 12A is an unassuming planet on the edge of the Terran’s Republic influence and the next fortunate target of the Republic’s unending expansion. To the Terran’s surprise, the world already possesses a human population, stopping the entire operation in its tracks as long-forgotten protocols and laws are dug out of the archives. Yet having to apply old protocols quickly turns out to be one of the Terran’s lesser problems, as the world’s society turns out to be more alien than any of them could have expected.
