Prologue-Death and The Shard

Prologue-Death and The Shard

"Why?" whispered a young man

His voice was laced with sorrow and despair as he felt the cold and terrifying embrace of death.

It hurts.

It hurts so much.

"Why me?"

"Why now!!" he screamed in agony looking at the car that just ran him over speeding off.

Slowly but surely, he could feel his vision begin to blur and his breathing and body getting heavier.

He was dying.

Not only was he about to lose his life in an accident, but there wasn't even a soul around to help him and the only person that could have was now speeding off from the crime scene.

Just as his life was finally starting to get better, fate dealt its cruel hands once more and this time completely robbing him of any chance of a comeback.

As he felt the chilling embrace of death, his senses started to vanish and his body began to shut down, his life started to flash before his eyes.

He was an orphan, one of the many born in the slums and brought to the local government orphanages for abandoned children.

It wasn't the greatest of places but at least they gave us food, clothing and a chance at education.

Growing up he wasn't exactly the smartest or most athletic child, he was as average as average got. His only saving grace according to those around him was that he was persistent.

While others were off playing and making friends, all he did was study so that one day he could finally turn his life around.

For years he had preserved, fueled by an illusionary hope and longing for the future. No matter how badly he wanted to give up and just enjoy life, he still persevered by clinging to that hope.

Finally, just as things were finally going great and he had managed to get into a prestigious university

Disaster struck.

It's Ironic, isn't it?

Just as his wish was finally about to come through and that once elusive future was about to turn into reality, he ended up dying.

'Maybe I shouldn't have tried that hard'

'I should have just accepted my fate'

As these thoughts began to creep into his ever so distant mind, he couldn't help but feel a tinge of anger and helplessness at his demise.

Helpless at his fate and angry at himself for even having such thoughts that completely discredits all his hardwork and sacrifice.

"FUCK!!" he screamed with all the strength he had left at the sky with a voice laced with a mixture of complicated emotions.

Was it anger?

Was it despair? Or was it even relief for not having to try so hard anymore?

Who knows? even he wasn't sure what he was feeling anymore.

The only he was certain of was that right now, in this very moment, his existence was about to end.

Closing his eyes, he could feel his thoughts begin to slow to a crawl, darkness starting to consume his mind and sight, and then finally, everything went silent.

He died.

Elsewhere.

In a void, a battle was being fought between 2 different beings over a mysterious shard flashing with various runes that were hard to decipher.

One of them was a being with eyes that seemed to contain all the mysteries of the universe, a body larger than stars and fingers capable of piercing planets.

While the other being had eyes that shone with a dark gaze and seemed to contain an endless abyss, just as large as the other.

For what seemed like almost a millennium these beings had been locked in a decisive battle to claim ownership of the shard. From one end of the void to the next, they had been battling for ownership of the shard completely unaware of how much time had passed.

With a single movement of their wrists, space collapsed and various time and space continuums were formed and erased repeatedly with each attack.

For beings at the level of a True God, such prowess would be unimaginable, and yet, for these two beings, this was nothing more than a casual display of power, akin to regular human clapping their hands.

"Let's end this." Spoke the being with eyes like the abyss.

"Indeed." replied the other

Both beings had begun to grow weary of this neverending battle and had realised that only by unleashing their ultimate attacks would this battle have any chance of ending.

Immediately, both beings began to gather all the energy they could muster in preparation for one final attack.

Unknownst to them though, a strange fluctuation had been emanating from the shard stretching out even to the farthest regions of reality from the very beginning of their battle.

Finally, both beings had now gathered enough energy for one final attack causing the surrounding void to be divided into two.

One side of space contained a beautiful blue and purple nebula, while the other was completely pitch black and devoid of all light.

*WHOOSH*

At a speed incomprehensible to the mortal mind, both attacks were launched and collided with each other. And for a very brief second space and time seemed to have been frozen for an eternity before finally.

*BOOM!!*

A large crack was formed and a sound that resounded through all of reality was heard causing countless mortals and divine beings alike to pause all actions as a fear that came from the very depths of their souls blossomed.

All the laws of reality were thrown into disarray causing chaos in many realms, and it was at this very moment that the shard seemed to have sensed something and would then proceed to do something that would shock both beings present for a long time.

In less than a second, a wormhole was formed beneath the cube sucking it away before both beings even had the chance to react, leaving them both speechless and in disbelief, before they proceed to use all their means of tracking to find the shard.

Unluckily for both beings, the shard seemed to have completely disappeared from reality, leaving no traces behind.
