The year is 2078, and Humanity is taking its first tentative steps beyond the system of Sol. Among these brave pioneers is doctor Everie Mairot-Amaje, a non-binary botanist and heir to a vast family fortune he’d like nothing better than to forget. They’re to serve aboard the ship UTAS Compass Rose, sent on a thirty-year mission to explore, and hopefully colonize, a habitable planet. All seems as expected, until disaster strikes at the edge of the oort cloud, where an unidentified spacecraft emerges from the void and attacks.
