“One, two, three, four!” I exclaimed, standing in front of a wall of mirrors.
A bright smile was plastered on my face as I tried my best to match the movements of my body with the beat of the music. It was something I’ve been doing for a looooong time; ever since I was a little girl and watched all the shiny idols dance, sing, and captivate everyone with their smiles—myself included.
I was already at the perfect age to try to be an idol myself, and regardless of what papa says, I’m going to make it! No matter what!
Once the music was over, I heaved with sweat pouring down the side of my face. It was a rather good session. It could be better, but it was really good, much better than any other girl trying to join an agency.
Why so confident, you might ask? Well, I couldn’t deny that I had been blessed with the perfect features to be an idol! I… was fated to be one! To be the brightest one of them all—I mean, just look at me, right there in the large mirror.
Big bright rounded eyes; perfect pale skin that seemed as if it was made of out of porcelain; a small, and yet perfectly sculptured nose; lips like rose petals that carry the kind of honest smile that would make any man fall for them; long glossy black hair; and a small frame that allures anyone that sees it.
If there was one thing, however, that I didn’t particularly like… was that my boobs were a bit too big… at least for an idol! But that wouldn’t be an issue if I had the proper dress and costume.
As for who I am? Well, all you need to know is that I’ll be the biggest idol ever, so why bother with things that aren’t important?
And I knew what was important and what wasn’t. I mean, I’ve been looking at idols my whole life! From the way they dress, to the way they dance, and even all the small little gossips that people share about them online and on TV. I had it all down to perfection!
At least… the things that I know, hehe, as I still don’t have the moves nor the proper getup. But I’ll get there eventually! And… that wry smile on my face couldn’t stay! It had to go.
I did as I suggested myself, and forced the awkward smile into something more idol-like. There, the edges of my mouth in the right position… the amount of teeth that must be shown… how open the mouth should look like… And there! Just as it should be…
If it wasn’t that the smile didn’t reach the eyes!
Argh, it’s always so difficult to make it work, but I had to make it work. With more practice I should be able to perfect it all, just as the best idols out there do.
I turned to my phone, which was laying on the floor, leaning against a wall. There was no more time to practice my smile. I had to keep practicing the most important part: dancing and singing. So I reached for it, and hit the play button again.
The music, as expected, was fast, with a lot of changes in pace. I had to keep practicing, but… as soon as I took the first step, my perfect smile completely crumbled! W-well, as long as it’s there in some way, then it should be good enough… for now.
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
A skip, a hop, a step to the side, and a small spin. There, another set was done. But… again, I couldn’t help but see myself in an awkward way in the reflection of the mirror.
“Hehe…” I awkwardly laughed.
It was still kinda clumsy… but well, I had to keep perfecting it, otherwise no agency or scout was going to take notice of me! And I couldn’t just wait until I was in my twenties to be an idol! You’ll be on the way out by then, which means… no time to waste! More practice!
* * *
“Haaah… Haaaah…” I heaved much heavier now that a couple of hours passed.
I was spent! But with a confident nod, I looked at myself in the mirror.
I hadn’t improved at all, even after singing and dancing all morning!
“Oh well…”
Such was the way that these things went. If you could become perfect after a few hours of practice, then even the homeless man living under a bridge would be able to be an idol—no sir! This just means that tomorrow I had to keep practicing just the same way as today.
I lowered myself to pick up the water bottle, and I felt how uncomfortable the ‘comfortable’ clothes were after sweating so much. I grabbed the shirt and aired it a little. It wouldn’t be proper for an idol to be covered in sweat like this, unless it was on the stage, where the fans would see that as an expression of the hard work I’m putting in.
But outside of the stage, I had to look as prim and proper as I could possibly be—heck, I might just have to wear different kinds of clothes for when I practice, just in case that someone takes a picture and uploads it on social media.
Although… looking around the empty room, there really wasn’t a fear that something like that was going to happen; that and that I was still not famous enough for someone to be taking pictures of me… unless they were a pervert!
I looked around once more to make sure there wasn’t a pervert, but there really wasn’t anyone, so with a sigh, I once more drank from the water bottle.
While doing so, the phone on the floor suddenly rang, loudly vibrating before dropping to the floor, creating a loud pang that nearly made me choke on the water.
With a loud cough and a tapping of my chest, I urgently turned to look at it to see who was calling. I was glaring at it for whoever tried to kill me just now, but then my eyes went wide as the one calling was from one of the agencies I was trying to join.
I nearly dropped the water bottle to the ground as I scrambled to pick up the phone, clumsily sliding my finger on it to answer the phone, anxiety and anticipation all rushing into me as I wondered if it was a call for acceptance or… rejection.
With a deep breath, I closed my eyes and readied myself to listen to what they had to say.
The words kept coming, and I kept repeating yes, as I heard what the man had to say… After a few seconds of listening, the call was over. I looked down on the phone as I turned it off…
“Yes!” I shouted, raising my fists up in the air.
I had been accepted to join a new idol group they were making! I didn’t know yet what role I was going to play in it, but knowing me, I was likely going to be the center! The leader! The one that everyone turns to look at!
The tiredness of the practice session completely vanished from the excitement I was feeling, and I even decided that now was as good a time as any to practice even more.
Why? Because… You may now call me… Lady Idol!
However, as I turned to face the mirror to practice proper idol gestures—like a wink and a finger pointing to the mirror—a pale blue light fired from my finger, loudly slapping the mirror which threatened to break.
I froze as I looked at my finger and the small blue light covering it.
“No way…” I whispered.
Not only did I become an idol… I also awakened magic.
And so began my life as the greatest… Magical Idol?!
