Poesie Vella Fiocca wants to be a paladin of the Divine Crown to protect humanity from the revenant threat. Her father Domenico was one of the best in his day, and she wants to either live up to his reputation or surpass it. But Poesie does not truly understand what it means to be a paladin. When a Shade harboring violent Yearning stalks her and her bright friend Naya, she learns what it means to combat the dead, and to protect the innocent.
