After the Great Deluge, a war that flooded the world, violence is the only currency.
In small settlements and crumbling ruins people fight for status with Remarks, psychic weapons innate to all humans with powers and appearances as unique as fingerprints.
Devon Near is a woman with a problem. She wants to kill the man who killed her father. She wants to leave her backwater town and find somewhere that isn’t governed by “might make right”. But with a Remark so weak that it’s only power is attracting flies, what option does she have other than to rot?
Things change, however, when a stranger named Adam comes to town. Adam is powerful. Adam has a mission. And Adam… has a secret.
When he reveals that secret to Devon, she suddenly finds herself with the strength (and Remark) necessary to fight. Together, the two of them set out to right the wrongs of this world and destroy the forces that caused the Great Deluge. But power can be intoxicating, and Devon will learn if it’s possible to reach heaven through violence.
What is it?:
A slow burn progression fantasy with a female MC in a grim dark world inspired as much by Angel’s Egg as it is Berserk.
quick paced and unique chapters that average around 2,500 words.
What should I expect?:
No stats, no litrpg mechanics, no Isekai protags, just the joy of watching a character go from weak to strong, and all the drama and strife that comes from it.
Post Hardcore Prog fantasy, a focus on a gritty and intense tone with a lot of rage.
Gore, swearing. Mental trauma. Lots of descriptions of people being cleaved in half.
Two very different protagonists that through circumstances end up stuck together, and have to co-exist.
A magic system inspired as much by shonen series such as HunterxHunter and JoJo as it is the works of Michael Moorcock.
A protagonist who gets stronger through hard work and training, with a focus on physical development and how she changes as a person.
Villains and side characters given as much depth and exploration as our heros.
Okay but seriously whats it like reading it?:
Being a kid in 2003 watching adult swim at 2am, and seeing a cartoon you’ve never heard of that never airs again, but sticks in your head for the rest of your life.
I hope you enjoy!
