Synopsis
Thousands of years ago, the world was a hellish landscape. Demons and monsters roamed the land, and the kingdoms of men, elves, and deva were far apart. Travelling between kingdoms was a dangerous thing, and few people could brave the open lands. At a certain point in history, magic was discovered, allowing the three races to fight back against world. Three disciplines emerged— sorcery, alchemy, and witchcraft. For reasons unknown, all of humanity gained power over the arcane. Elven mages were rare and the deva were granted powerful resistance to magic, but nothing else. With its newfound power, humanity quickly became the most powerful race in the world, easily conquering the nations of the elves and deva. Wars were fought and legends made. Now, in the modern world, humanity is divided into three empires, each one based on the three disciplines. The deva live on an isolated continent to the south-east. The elves live in their own recovered kingdoms, trying their best to stay away from the politics of the human world. Humans, for their part, are ruled by the nobility and royalty, families of powerful magi. Highborn might as well be considered a race of their own. Each noble is said to be worth a hundred men. Stronger, faster, and practically impossible to defeat unless facing a highborn magus as well. But long before all this, before men, elves, and deva walked the earth, the world hosted the presence of ancient gods. In every age that passed, these towering beings of fire and stone would attempt to retake the world. These dark times are called the Crossing, a moment in time where hundreds of Rifts appear across the skies. The story follows two highborn magi as a new Crossing begins. He is Chaos Maxwell, the Savior of Orison— a boy who once singlehandedly ended a king's rebellion in the north. They call him a one man army, skilled in every weapon and combat magic alike. His family is considered as the second greatest house of sorcerers in the empire, and their wealth and power is the stuff of legend. But the world does not know how much he regrets. She is Nikita Takahashi, the Hero of Kria— a girl who once united her kingdom under a single banner to end the threat of the Whispers, a race of ancient evil that sought to corrupt the world. She is revered as an exceptional commander and a master of diplomacy. Yet for all her smiles and quips, the girl is still in mourning from the losses of the war she lead. They are both broken. All their lives they were raised as heroes, as beacons of hope, and symbols of inspiration. Saving the world has lost its charm. Now a curse forces them to live as one. His life is hers and hers is his. They share knowledge but not memories, skills but not thoughts. Two souls sharing one anchor.
