Synopsis

I am a young Mother. So when the Grandmothers gave me a new species to bring to Sophont, I thought I had heard wrong.  Then, when it sank in, I felt the honor I had been given.  I had not hatched my first brood yet I was given the honor to create on my first world a species that had never been created before by my Kin, Primates. Also, I was to use my Nature as the path the new world was to take; not one the Grandmothers gave as would normally be the case for one as young as I was. My hubris turned my first creation into a folly.  Everything went wrong!  I watched as everything evolved and grew. I watched the now humans grow from taking their first steps, all the way to landing on Luna and, during that journey, they subverted the Nature of my world, and thought themselves above it.  Even with all this they somehow seemed to thrive.  They treated each other in ways I did not understand and no other species the Kin had brought to Sophont had.  I had made a real mess of it somehow.  My own edict of this world meant I could not just wipe it and start over so, when just by chance, I came across a human child and watched him interact with his world, it gave me an epiphany on how I could make this right and show the Grandmothers I was worthy of their trust.  I would go and humble myself before them and ask to create another world just like this but not make the same mistake. Free will is good but everything needs boundaries. Take Note:  I will not repeat this every chapter!! There will be scenes and talk of many things that some will find offensive, wrong, upsetting, triggering, etc.  The MC was a very abused and molested child, who grew up to to be a life-long solider.  He is thrown into the world when the Roman Empire was at its height.  It was a world that, to people of today, would be violent and horrendous.  Slavery is normal and not pretty; something the MC will violently rebel against.  Women were property in the Roman world and treated as such.  If the woman was not a Roman citizen, well, it was worse.  I am not going to spell it out; hopefully people that read this can understand the things that went on.  Life was cheap and freedom as we know was something you had to fight for.  This is the only warning I will give. This is a historical fantasy.  I have done a lot of research on the era and will try to be as accurate as I can.  I will take some liberties, of course.  I write chapters until they are finished so the word count will vary.  To paraphrase Mozart:  they will have the number of words they need. The MC is based on myself.  We both suffer from alexithymia and a total lack of empathy.  I bring this out hoping to bring some awareness and understanding of these of things. This is the first time I have ever written anything longer than an essay.  I have had this story bouncing around in my head for many years.  I hope you find it interesting.  Constructive feedback is welcome!
