Synopsis
The night was unnaturally still at the Multiversal Academy. Professor Evelyn Thorne sat in her dimly lit office, her eyes scanning ancient texts and holographic displays. She was deep in thought when her Quantum Codex on her wrist began to pulse with an eerie, unfamiliar light."What in the world?" she muttered, examining the device. The air grew heavy, and a low hum filled the room. Suddenly, a blinding light erupted, shaking the entire Academy. Evelyn staggered to her feet as her office was bathed in white light. She felt an inexplicable pull towards the center of the room
In the heart of her office, a massive, swirling vortex of energy appeared, tearing through reality. The edges of the rift crackled with energy, sending sparks flying. Through the chaos, Evelyn glimpsed other worlds, each more fantastical than the last.
A faint voice called out from the rift, "Evelyn..."
Her breath caught. She knew that voice. "Alex?" she whispered, reaching out. As her fingers brushed the edge of the rift, a surge of energy coursed through her, and the world exploded into a kaleidoscope of color and sound. She was thrown backwards, crashing into her desk.
As the light faded, Evelyn struggled to her feet. The rift had shrunk, pulsing weakly. "Alex..." she whispered, fear and hope in her voice. She had to find him. The fate of the Multiversal Academy, perhaps the entire multiverse, depended on it.
While on The other side :
Alex Mercer jolted awake, his heart pounding, his Quantum Codex vibrating wildly on his wrist. He sat up, blinking against the sudden brightness. The device pulsed with an eerie light, casting strange shadows.
"What the heck?" he muttered, grabbing his glasses. The room trembled again, and memories of the previous night flooded back: the tremor, the blinding light, the voice.
He jumped out of bed and rushed to the window. In the heart of the Academy grounds, a massive, swirling vortex of energy tore through reality, just like in his dream.
"No way," he whispered. He had to get to the courtyard.
Throwing on a jacket, Alex sprinted down the hallway. The Academy was in chaos, students and professors running in all directions. He burst into the courtyard and skidded to a halt. Lila and Jin were already there, their Quantum Codexes glowing the same strange light.
"Alex!" Lila called, over the roar of the rift. "What's going on?"
"I don't know," Alex shouted back, eyes locked on the swirling chaos. "But I think... I think my mom is in there."
Before they could react, a deafening roar filled the air, and the vortex expanded, crackling with energy. The ground trembled, and Alex felt a strange pull towards the rift.
"We need to move!" Jin yelled, grabbing Alex's arm. "Now!"
But it was too late. With a blinding flash, the vortex exploded outward, and Alex was lifted off his feet, hurtling towards the heart of the rift. As the world dissolved into color and sound, he heard his mother's voice one last time.
"Alex... find me..."
And then, everything went black.
