Synopsis

Note: I plan to come back to this story later, but I think the "universe" needs to be developed before I can do this story justice, so I'm going to be writing another story set in the same "universe" before I dig into this one (universe in quotes because it'll be set in the same fundamental reality subject to the same rules, but not in the same actual universe). Kieron loved DnD. He still loves it, but he also loved it then, and that's the part that matters. You see, one day when playing with his college friends, Kieron got really enthusiastic as he explained just how Sir Naelen Fallwatcher cast Produce Flame to make start the campfire, and he must have done something right because suddenly, the board was on fire! Perhaps more interesting than that, however, was when he suddenly found that he simply knew he had reached the first level of fire manipulation! All around the world, others had similar experiences as they inexplicably accomplished similar feats. Follow the story of Earth through the lens of Kieron and his friends as humanity is forced to rapidly adapt to powers beyond their understanding, lest mysterious threats from beyond their planet destroy everything before humanity can even understand what happened to them. I've always been a fan of System Apocalypse stories, so I wanted to try my hand at writing my own. My goals for this are manyfold. First and foremost I want everything to have an explanation. No skill comes from nowhere, no magic doesn't have a pure logic behind it, and science doesn't get thrown out. In Project Evolution, everything we know about science and technology is not only true but also wholly compatible, synergistic even, with magic. A lot of other System Apocalypse stories I've read tend to follow a certain character, discarding the world as a whole, and I've always had a bit of an issue with that. Humanity's strength comes from the collective working together, and I want to see a story where humanity as a whole rises together. Finally, I've spent years fleshing out a very detailed magic system and multiverse I've just been itching to put to paper, and in this, I see a perfect opportunity. This is my first book, so I welcome criticism. I use a word, phrase, or sentence structure too much? Let me know! My characters start becoming plot devices rather than character? Tell me! I only ask that you be polite about it. My release schedule is whenever I feel like it. I've got a lot of fleshing out to do with Kieron's plot, so early chapters will likely come slowly. I may introduce other alternate PoVs later; at this point it's hard to say.
