Freedom Fighter.  Slave.  These were the many names of Ark Light—the greatest swordsman of Ambrosia—and the kingdom's greatest weapon.  In a fight against Irelex, the Black Phoenix standing at the apex of the world, he was betrayed and struck down by his best friend.  Facing death together, Irelex and Ark strike a deal. He will be reborn a century later as a prince of the kingdom.
