Synopsis
In a near future ravaged by climate change, pandemics, and economic collapse, healthcare has become a privatized battlefield. Mega-corporations like Pegasus Pharmaceuticals dominate the world, deploying heavily armed medical enforcers known as Pharmaguards to secure patents, crush counterfeiters, and deliver life-saving treatments—if the price is right.
On Pelican Island, one of the last places where coffee still grows, Whybrew Washington runs his plantation like a fortress—keeping 90 workers sheltered from the chaos outside. As a massive hurricane brews off the Gulf, Washington scrambles to secure life-saving medicine for his workforce. Meanwhile, the nearby tent city of Galveston, home to thousands, is left to the mercy of the storm.
The plantation’s survival hinges on a crucial shipment of pharmaceuticals traveling from Charlotte to Houston. When Pegasus Pharmaceuticals discovered counterfeit medicine smuggled into the supply chain, they threw the medicine overboard and with it Washington’s hopes of providing for his workers, leaving him few good options.
After being denied the proper amount of care, Washington hires Nigel—smuggler, thief, and occasional idealist—to intercept the Houston bound shipment and deliver it to his plantation.
