Synopsis
The Brightlight Empire has reigned supreme on the Malthus Continent for centuries since its origin nearly a millennium ago. Under Imperial might, the various nations that used to coexist with the Brightlight Empire are now vassals, absorbed, or in ruins. The will of the Divine Emperor stretches from the Western Ocean to the Eastern Ocean, and from the Northern Desert to the Southern Wastes. Hailing from a long line of Emperors and Empresses, the Divine Emperor rules with the blind devotion of his subjects. Endowed with enough magical power to live as a God, the Divine Emperor is also able to bestow some of the Imperial Divinity to his subjects.
Nearing the thousandth year since the Empire was founded, the Divine Emperor has declared that the celebrations will last for a year when the New Year starts. Only with the massive resources and wealth of a hegemon could such a thing even be thought possible. However, not all is well in the Empire of the Divine Sun.
Court intrigue has neared an all time high. Rumors float from the Capital to the countryside that the Divine Emperor will declare his successor sometime during the celebrations. The Empire’s armies have grown complacent without a rival to challenge them. Revolts in the vassal nations have always been crushed nearly as fast as they happened, but the Imperial Oracles have seen disturbing portents.
Old powers independent of the Imperial Divinity are rumored to have returned. Ambassadors to the vassal states have reported border skirmishes between many of the subsidiary kingdoms and nations. Whispers and plots seem to be as commonplace as light during the day. Will the Brightlight Empire be able to maintain its status as sole hegemon of the Malthus Continent? Only time will tell.
