When destiny is governed by a single thread, a single string, interwoven and coalescing into the phenomenon known as fate, it's left to the Fatebearers to keep the status quo—in secrecy. Varna, a fledgling Stringer, who hasn't even borne the name of Fatebearer, takes up her first proper assignment to oversee Kallas, her designated Fated down his destined path. However, when emotions take precedence, her identity is exposed and Kallas' fate is unravelled. Personal feelings and work become inseparable, and, ironically enough, it seems their outcome is left to fate.
