A teen boy too old to manifest a magical affinity, finally does, but quickly learns it is forbidden and greatly feared, making him only worthy of death. His family has to flee for their lives to escape mob persecution, causing great tragedy, and a struggle to survive. He is enslaved, loses his dignity and eventually even his gender. She is rescued and learns over a long period to harness her rare magic, with help from her twin siblings and the few good people she is able to befriend. This is a slow burn, slice of life, gender bender, with magic, mutations, monsters and medieval military mixed in. This is not a fan fiction, but was inspired by other works of fiction, including Melody of Mana, Paranoid Mage, and Assassin's Anthem. If you haven't read them yet, I highly recommend you do.
