Big brother Gammel and little sister Tettsena have always taken care of each other, even while being so different. They are generally good kids that have been raised in a comfortable town. Tettsena is smart, too smart for her own good and always looking for more which is not the rule of thumb that is present in everyone she knows. "Take care of you and yours and don't worry about the rest" has never been a way she could live. For instance, the creatures they had been taught to fear in stories have always fascinated her rather than scared her.                Gammel is stepping into the adult world and he is happy for it. He's doing exactly what he needs to. Their comfortable town is getting cramped and the world they learned about are about to come apart at the seams.
