Synopsis
Los Angeles, 1984. Brad Richards is stuck on the Santa Monica Freeway in his Ford Bronco, staring at a massive billboard. It features a woman with purple lips wearing a metallic helmet, her eyes hidden behind a silver visor. Beneath her, bold, slanted futuristic letters proclaim:The NeuroNexus 9000 – Nothing will ever be the sameHe buys one and finds that the ads were right: nothing will ever be the same again. Brad is plunged into the game itself, into Breaker City, where players gather for R&R before embarking on missions, choosing between exploring the vast fantasy world of Windersmyre, or delve into the futuristic sci-fi metropolis of Elatrion, or— for those who dare—venture into that eerie mansion deep in the woods.Soon, Brad discovers that the 1984 expansion is just the latest installment of a game that’s been running since 2071. Who built it? Why? Everyone has their theories—and their reasons for playing. For Brad, it’s about finding answers. His journey puts him on a collision course with the game’s most powerful player, the Alpha Prime of Breaker City. What started as fun and games quickly becomes a deadly affair.
