In twelfth-century England, a young monk finds his monastic elder mysteriously dead in the crypt of their sacred abbey. Believing it was no accident, he takes increasingly risky measures to seek evidence. But a new kind of evil presence lurks, and prayers may not be enough to save the community from damnation.
