On the island of Helena, there is a tenuous peace. Unlike the wars raging on the continent of Ambria, Helena is far removed from the ravaging armies and crumbling polities. But it is not free from the far reaching effects of it. It’s 13 August, 149 of the Third Age, and a ship hasn’t been seen in weeks from the mother city of Oren, and the food is running out. The island’s commander, Lord Carrack, faces the threat of complete anarchy despite his best efforts to conserve supplies and generate more sustenance with the help of his resident mage. As starvation and chaos ensue, a derelict ship crashes onto the island, carrying only a mysterious statue and a comatose Inquisitor from the theocratic state of Vinterpol who still inspires fear despite being incapacitated. This enigmatic figure, called the “Mistress” by the inhabitants, becomes a beacon of hope for the beleaguered community. But the statue also brings unforeseen danger, haunting Lord Carrack with ghosts from his past and threatening the island’s very existence.
