Chapter 8: A Quest???

Chapter 8: A Quest???

I looked up at the sky through the kitchen window. It had never been that beautiful before. Despite this ride to a new world ordeal, I still thanked the sky for looking familiar. At least, the sky here looked the same as Earth's. Somewhat feeling better, I faintly smiled.

But it wasn't for long. I could feel three pairs of eyes studying me from behind. I must have some kind of animal instinct to accurately figure that out. Those trio holders from before nailed their eyes on me every time I had my eyes elsewhere, looking at me like I was a circus or something.

"It's been a day. Enough already." I didn't even spare a glance, and they moved their heads awkwardly.

"What do you mean, lady?"

"Looking is all I can afford."

"I am sorry."

So they were the thug man - Pascal, the fox man - Emil, and the quiet man - Lucas.

"I'll charge every one of you next time," I said blatantly. I could hear Emil's whining but decided to pretend not to hear it. Apparently, I was too beautiful for a woman, no exaggeration. These guys went on their way to squeeze themselves into this small house only to study me. Just when I thought there were some saint guys out there, looking after an injured monster.

The dining room had been conjured into a bedroom for the trio, the ogre, and Pauli. The ogre, although looking better, was yet to wake up.

"Spin a little so I can see you better."

Next to me was Lucy. She and Aria were close enough to be called sisters. Although she said she wouldn't cram together inside the house, she ended up sleeping with Aria. Me? Of course, I peacefully slept in Aria's bed all by myself.

"Like this?" Aria spun herself, showing off her hunting fit. I shouldn't have laughed, but she looked like a girl scout with that clothes.

"Sheena?" Lucy nudged her elbow on my hands, suggesting me to stop.

"What's so funny?" Aria's tone was annoyed.

"You looked funny. That's why." I laughed. "And cute too. So it's a good thing."

"Sister!"

"Stop it. I can't be with you guys." Pauli slid inside with a pouch in his hand and threw it to Aria. "We run out of calming dust. Go get some."

"Me again?" Aria's question was actually solid. She had been going here and there taking care of things for the ogre. Almost everything was on her.

"Yes. You're the one insisting on him, right? I am teaching you some responsibility." Pauli folded his hands on his chest. This man was probably only annoyed by all the fights in the house and wanted the troublemakers to step outside for some piece of mind.

"Eh? Our Empire has been on good terms with the monsters all this time. They helped us a lot in wars. You should help him too." Aria was quite the talker.

"This gremlin. You're giving me lessons now?" Pauli's hand was ready to hit Aria's head, but it was stopped mid-air by the ogre's abrupt sobering up.

"Where?" A hoarse sound came out.

"Hey, the ogre." Pascal jumped, and the other boys followed. They prepared their stance. Lucy got up too, spreading her hands in front of me and Aria. Oho, when was the last time a cute girl defended me like this?

The sudden movement from the ogre had changed the atmosphere. There was seriousness and professionalism in the trio's and Lucy's eyes. I had forgotten, but these people were C-class officials holders after all. Suddenly, even the annoying Emil was looking cool.

Everybody was silent, waiting for whatever the ogre's response was. The ogre studied the surrounding, panning across each and every one of us. Then, as if he had understood his situation, he raised his hands. With that, everyone's anxiety melted.

"Once again. Thank you." The ogre lowered himself.

"No need. Lift yourself up, young man." Pauli patted the ogre's shoulder. Only then that he sat straight. This man, really. He was the one nagging most of the time. Complaining about what would happen if the ogre was hostile.

"It is our duty to protect anything that our Emperor wishes to protect," Pascal added, placing his hands on his waist and busting his chest all flexed.

If there was one thing I admired, it would be the loyalty in people's tone every time they talked about the Yugenheims, except for Pauli. He was an antis. Of course, this was only between me and him.

"Ah, where's my manner. My name is Oso, the second son of the former Ogre Chief, Badar, from Mount Pelion." He bowed with courtesy. Even an ogre had a better manner than some people on Earth nowadays.

"No way. You're the son of Chief Badar?" It was the quiet Lucas. He surprised me this time. I never heard him raising his voice like that.

"Eh? Chief Badar?" Lucy stepped forward and smiled from ear to ear.

"The son of that legendary Chief Badar! Nice to meet you. I am Emil, the best tanker here." Emil, as impulsive as he was, reached Oso's right hand and shook it hard.

"My heaven. It's like my birthday. I am meeting a son of a legend." This over-the-top remark was from the optimistic Pascal.

"Who?" Of course, I was the only confused one.

"Hahaha, this is Sheena. She had an accident not long ago. Hitting her head hard. She loses most of her memory." It was Pauli. He had been telling that story to everyone this couple of weeks.

"Yes. Sister has amnesia. Of course, no one in this Empire is not familiar with Chief Badar's name." Aria declared.

"This man right here is the son of Chief Badar. The man who commanded 120.000 monsters in the War of Eden." Emil's eyes glittered. He was like a kid glorifying his favourite superhero. Hearing this, Oso twisted his lips to smile, revealing two sharp fangs. His tensed expression slowly disappeared.

'Lian. What is the War of Eden?'

'Answer: This information is not related to the system. Thus, no prior data is prepared. There is no information about said topic being saved as well. For your information, data irrelevant to the system that you wish to save will be saved.'

And here I thought I could ask her everything but the system's origin. Turned out, I could only ask for information relevant to the system.

"Open Inventory. Ares's Spear." Oso called for something. Then, a spear appeared and fell onto Oso's hands.

"Whoa!" Lucas shouted, spreading his hands and smacking both Pascal and Emil out of the way. "This is the unknown class weapon, Ares's Spear? A spear of 4 different fires???"

Jeez. This Lucas guy really was a geek.

Oh, wait! Ares's spear? Like Ares, the God of War in Greek mythology? They know him too?

'Lian, how come a culture of another world is well known here?'

'Answer: Ares is a God of War from a faraway land on the outer side of this universe. He is a well-known figure since the unidentified weapon class; Ares's Spear is recorded in the system.'

So that's what happened.

"This was my father's spear. I was on a mission to escort this weapon from my father's tomb to our village. But, my party was attacked by something in our way back."

The conversation suddenly changed into something more serious.

"What happened to the other members?" I asked, genuinely curious.

"I don't have any memory of the event. I just remembered being wounded and fleeing the siege."

"What's their goal?" Pauli inquired. He, although goofy looking, was actually quite sharp. I had mentioned this before that I was not a good judge of character. That being said, I was not surprised by Pauli's sharpness.

"It's probably the spear, right?" Emil followed. Once again, this blunt-headed-looking guy actually did some deduction.

"I hope so." Oso's eyes trembled, and his grip tightened around the spear. "Since my father died, reports of a mysterious entity doing God knows what around the mountain are spreading. That's why my elder brother, the current chief, ordered me to take this spear and brought it back to our village. Supposedly, The Sacred Tomb is the safest place to store the treasure. But, with the existence of such a threat, I don't think so anymore." He paused. Everybody else was silent, sensing a terrible follow-up from Oso.

"What's that entity doing?" It was Aria who was unable to read the situation. In a lightweight tone, she inquired. This place's lifespan was slow. Thus, the development of the brain was slow too. Despite living for 77 years, she was still a child with a child's brain and a child's heart.

"When we were commuting to the tomb, we saw a once big and lively village disappear without a trace. It was just a big opening with nothing else, no living monster, no nothing."

It left everyone speechless. I, on the other hand, was sceptical.

"You're sure you're not mistaking some vacant fields for a village?" The rest turned their heads to me with judgemental eyes.

"It's because I am sure that I am this anxious. That's why I have to go back as soon as possible." Oso stood up despite his wobbly body. The spear was no longer in his hands.

"At least," Pascal stood up too, "Let us accompany you to the border. I know a shorter route."

"We can use some horses. It'll save ya some energy."

"I'm in."

Emil and Lucas followed. After all, they were big fans of Oso's father.

"Hah. I guess I have to go too." Lucy reluctantly agreed. I started to think that she was just dragged around by these unthoughtful men all this time.

Despite how much I was curious about this whole incident, I was thankful. Finally, I was able to hear myself think in peace again. I needed to start training my weak body and collected information. Hopefully, something would lead me closer to The Systems. Just when I let out a really long sigh, my screen suddenly appeared. A notification bar popped up.
