Synopsis

I screwed up.  Life in an isolated village beneath the mountains seems boring to most. But I love it. The vast forests hide many things, many secrets buried beneath roots and earth. There are many things to do, many places to see, and it never gets old. Spotting wild animals, gathering fruits, berries and mushrooms, running from an angered swarm of bees, exploring a newly discovered cave... And, in my case at least, stumbling upon an old abandoned villa, a French book written in reverse and an exquisitely ornate mirror. I wish I could say that I'd wish I never found it. But the truth is I can't. I know too much to want to go back to ignorance. I have seen too much. The truth is, now I want to learn more. I want to see the truth. And where my mind will try to trick me, the mirror will show me true. For a mirror shows nothing but a reflection of a fragment of truth. Content warnings:- Profanity: nothing out of the ordinary or exaggerated, but with people being so sensitive to everything these last few years better to have it.- Gore: I don't plan on using this much, but again, better be on the safe side.- Nudity: just that. People in their birth clothes. What, do you actually bathe in your clothes? Thought so.- Traumatising content: Honestly, I have no idea what can be traumatic in fiction, I mean, its a fiction damnit. But whatever, at some point, there might be scenes of human sacrifice, cannibalism, and other stuff you usually find in horror/occultism stuff.- Slow pace: yes, this is a content warning. Apparently, some people are heavily bothered by this thing.  This story is written for the Royal Road Community Magazine, with the theme "Mirrors don't eat people" (Who comes up with this stuff? I wanna thank them for giving me such a great idea of a story!). The thought of writing this came to me in what I call a "mornin' wood-whim", and in the few following hours, I thought out the details. Honestly, I only have the vaguest of ideas of where I'm going with this, but I hope people will find it enjoyable nonetheless.
