Synopsis
Vera is used to the drudgery of everyday life in the urban marshes and wastelands of New Pangaea.
She might have survived global catastrophe by hiding behind her microscope, but now, she's got to put her money where her mouth is and pay back the debt she owes for avoiding mandatory military service...by working the dank inner-city waterways.
Work as a river cleaner isn't just toxic sludge, withering wildlife, and devastating reminders of the vast bodies of water that once were. It's a stable income and it gives her a sense of purpose in an otherwise meaningless post-war society. Plus, it's the only way she can make herself useful without a weapon in her hand. Even more of a plus: the VR headset she gets to wear while doing it.
Eco-VR brings Vera back to a time and place where the air was clean, the water was drinkable, and doing cannonballs didn't result in severe chemical burns. But when she finds something strange floating in the atmosphere, coming from the depths of the murky waters, or the drains, or is it her VR headset malfunctioning? —everything get's a bit murkier.
As a biology nerd, Vera knows a Marimo when she sees one. But these are not the practically-extinct algae growths she's familiar with. They are multiplying by the hour, and when they make contact with human life, the results won't be pretty.
Expect: climate change anxiety, some (non-boring) biology, a hot female MC, long distance romance (including some sexting), gamelit elements, dystopia at its height.
What not to expect: stat charts, system messaging, harems, toxic masc. energy
New chapters weekly.
